riverside walk guest house york england

Riverside Walk is in the center of York and yet it's location on the banks of the River Ouse make it seem a million miles away from the hustle, bustle and noise of York's city center!

DIRECTIONS

By Road
By Rail

From The M1

Follow the M1 until Junction 48 (the very end) which corresponds to Junction 44 of the A1(M). Then continue North on the A1(M) for one junction. As Junction 45 approaches you will see signs to York (A64). Leave the A1(M) at Junction 45 and bear round to the right following York on the A64. Follow the A64 (dual carriageway) for about 10 miles until you see signs for York A1237 (the outer ring road). Take the A1237 turn off and follow it until you come to the fourth roundabout. This will be signing A19 Thirsk and York Centre (which is also the A19 but less clearly indicated!). At this fourth roundabout take the third exit (York Centre) and follow the road into the centre of town. As you approach the centre of York you will see the ancient sandstone city gate in front of you (this is known locally as ‘Bootham Bar’). Look out for signs to Marygate Car Park and follow these to the right into Marygate itself. Marygate starts very narrow but widens out as you persevere! Towards the end of Marygate there is a very large disused pub called the Bay Horse, turn right here and in front of you is the Marygate car park. Riverside Walk is to the left of you now and the large green signs on the back of our property should be clearly visible. It is possible to drive along the lane at the rear of Earlsborough Terrace in order to unload people and luggage.

From York Railway Station

There are two good options to get to us from the railway. The first involves two fairly steep staircases (up and down the rail bridge) and so is not recommended for those who have limited mobility or bulky/heavy luggage.

Route 1

About 4 to 5 minutes walking.
Come out of the station and turn left onto Station Road. Pass the large hotel on your left and at the traffic lights go left into Leeman Road. As you walk along Leeman Road, on your right you will pass a large modern apartment block and then the main Post Office depot for York. In front of you is the very wide railway bridge. At the end of the depot, before the bridge, you will see a traffic island. Cross the road here and you will see a footpath between the railway line and the Post Office building. Follow this footpath and it will bring you out on the riverbank more or less opposite Riverside Walk. When you are on the riverbank you will see another, cast iron, railway bridge to your left, there is a walkway over the bridge so use it to cross the river. You will come down off the bridge facing ‘Earlsborough Terrace’ and if you look a few yards along the terrace you will clearly see the sign for Riverside Walk in our front garden. Follow the footpath and enter the front garden.

Route 2

About 10 minutes walking.
Come out of the station and turn left onto Station Road. Pass the large hotel on your left and carry straight on at the traffic lights past the gardens following the road round to the right and under the city bar walls. The road now turns back to the left and climbs to go over the river on Lendal Bridge. Once you have crossed the bridge you can either descend the steep steps or, more likely, carry on to use the street which doubles back on itself starting by the entrance to Museum Gardens. Either way you will find yourself on the riverbank next to Lendal Bridge. Go to the right, so that the river is on your left hand side, and follow the footpath by the river. You will pass museum gardens on your right and when you come to another ancient sandstone wall and small tower if you look ahead and slightly to the right you will be able to see our green sign in our front garden. Continue along the footpath and turn right into the front garden.
